Job Opening:  Music Director

Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ferguson, MO is seeking a dedicated and creative individual for the position of Director of Church Music. The position oversees and provides leadership for the music ministry of a 200 member church. We are looking for someone with previous church music experience.

Our instruments include the following: a 72 rank, 3 manual Wicks pipe organ which also digital capability allowing for the recording of the organ music; a beautiful 7’ grand piano; 4 octaves of White Chapel handbells and 3 octaves of Malmark choir chimes. We also have some smaller rhythm instruments.

The current groups involved in providing worship service music are an adult Sanctuary Choir and a handbell choir, the Crescendo Ringers. Currently, with an interim Music Coordinator, the choir is singing one Sunday a month with one rehearsal the Thursday before that particular Sunday. The handbell choir, with 8 dedicated ringers, is playing on a limited basis with one or two rehearsals on Wednesday nights before playing in worship.

Other responsibilities include: monthly staff meetings, weekly discussions with the senior pastor to prepare and coordinate worship music for each Sunday; maintaining a database of music files; scheduling tuning and service of church instruments; planning “special” music, i.e. choir, soloist, instrumentalist, at least once a month; and working with the church office personnel for coordinating music programming.

This is a part time position where the number of hours per week will vary depending on various needs for planning, rehearsals and practice.
