My Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It is with genuine gratitude that I wish you each a very Happy New Year. As I look back on the year just ended, I give humble thanks for all the love and support you have shown us. It is a privilege to be called by God to serve congregations, and it is what Jimmy and I are called in our hearts to do. I look forward to 2020 and all that it holds for you and for us.
As we begin the year, let us realign our lives to refresh God's purpose for us this New Year. I pray without ceasing for our cause and purpose for God's will in all we do. We need to become a beacon of hope and vision for all who are searching for a church community. All the work that God has called us to do cannot be accomplished by just Jimmy and myself; it is the whole church that God calls.
This year as we look forward to what we can be or what we can do, we should keep in mind what the Prophet Joel inspired by God spoke; "I will pour out my Spirit on all mankind. Your old people shall dream dreams and your young people shall see visions."
It is important to dream, to try to imagine how, for example, we can help to continue to make the world a better place. It is important to remember that we are all called to make a difference in our own lives and the lives of others. It is also important for us to continue to envision what our church community will look like this year and in years to come.
It is the dream or vision of God's plan for the world and the mission of Immanuel in that plan: to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth.
May we embrace this New Year with renewed love for Christ and for each other, may we continue to love unconditionally, may we be guided by the Holy Spirit in all that we do and may we continue to dream and have visions for our beloved faith filled community.
God's peace and love,
